    Books about: Tuning, building, engineering

    Title: Tune to Win
    Author: Carroll Smith
    Year: 1979
    Review:
This is a must for anyone interested in racecar preparation and tuning. Smith is an absolute expert in a difficult field and highly regarded by his peers. Also, check out his other "... to Win" books. All the same quality, written with talent and dry wit.

    Title: Engineer to Win
The Essential Guide to Racing Car Materials Technology

    Author: Carroll Smith
    Year: 1985
    Review:
My favorite books are the ones in the Carrol Smith series... These books are very, very practical. You also don't need an engineering degree to read and understand them. This is money well spent!

Title: Race Car Engineering and Mechanics
    Author: Paul Van Valkenburg
    Year: 1993
    Review:
Mr. Van Valkenburgh has succeeded in getting across a great deal of technical information, and presenting it in such a way that the non-technical reader can understand and apply it. From tires and shocks, to suspension geometry and slip angles, all of the nuts and bolts info. is covered. No muss, no fuss, no useless information that won't help you win races, just factual, useful information. I take it with me every time we go to the track, and I use it every time.

Title: Carroll Smith's Nuts, Bolts and Fasteners and Plumbing Handbook
    Author: Carroll Smith
    Year: 1990
    Review:
Required reading for everyone before turning a wrench. A very thorough guide to automotive hardware. Very readable as well. Mr. Smith is very opinionated however.
