    Books about: Driving techniques

    Title: Going Faster
Mastering the Art of Race Driving

    Author: Carl Lopez
    Year: 1998
    Review:
A new classic? The book compiles the experiences of many acclaimed racers into one cohesive and thorough book, which covers all the basic (and advanced) techniques needed to be fast. Racing lines, basic of car handling, racing in the rain, the real-world racing line, starting, passing and much more. Definitely BrendelRacing's favorite racing book.

    Title: The Racing Driver
The Theory and Practice of Fast Driving

    Author: Denis Jenkinson
    Year: 1997
    Review:
This is an excellent book for learning the "finer" points of high speed driving. The techniques and approach to the subject apply to both racing and street driving. This is a great book to read first if you want to learn to drive better, or if you wish to read more about the subject, it is a great base to start from.

Title: The Technique of Motor Racing
    Author: Piero Taruffi
    Year: 1990
    Review:
One of the first books written on the "art and science" of auto racing and by far still one of the best. His comments still hold true today even with great advances in car technology. If you're interested in racing and/or high-performance driving, buy this book!

Title: Ayrton Senna's Principles of Race Driving
    Author: Ayrton Senna
    Year: 1993
    Review:
If your a Formula One driver, some of these tips may be of use. I agree that the there is a great section on racing lines. Diet of a professional race driver is also informative. I enjoyed it because it gave me some insight into the life of a legend.

    Title: Drive to Win
The Essential Guide to Race Driving

    Author: Carroll Smith
    Year: 1996
    Review:
The best racing book on earth! This book is a masterpiece... Never has their been such an indepth study of race driving. A must for any young (or even experienced for that matter) driver. I have read many books on the subject but was astonished at Smith's understanding of race driving. This book has taught me a lot. I strongly recommend this book.

    Title: Winning
    A Race Drivers Handbook

    Author: George A. Anderson
    Year: 1993
    Review:
If you want the one source for how to get started in amatuer motorsports - look no more - this is your book. From how to shop for a car to how much it will cost, this book covers all bases. While you will still need guest reviewer Carrol Smith's series on preparation, this book provides a launching pad for how to get started. I find myself re-reading it time and time again for there is so much information to use. I can only hope that this book receives the exposure it deserves - I am now racing cars instead of watching them on TV and my thanks go out to the Author.

    Title: Secrets of Solo Racing
Expert Techniques for Autocrossing and Time Trials

    Author: Henry A. Watts
    Year: 1990
    Review:
From a race driver: The first book that I've ever seen that teaches the style of driving that has made me a successful racer. Like the driving style, the prose is smooth and efficient, with no wasted words. It is simple and clear, and best of all, it can make you a better driver. While some parts of the book are specific to SCCA Solo racing, the driving skills you improve will help you on the road course or the street.
