    The brake oiler

    By: John

I usually don't drive other people's equipment and here's why: The race was the Pomona Fairgrounds enduro. A friend had just constructed a new chassis for his twin rotory valve Komets. He questioned its handling, so I took it out for a couple of laps.

On the second lap I start flicking it thru the corners. The front / rear brake bias seemed good and you could really pitch it in. Can't remember the speed but I think it was fast, maybe more than 90 where you copped a left onto the drag strip straightaway.

I'm a show-off, and I'm going to run it thru there "High, Wide and Handsome" right in front of everyone. I get into the turn, hit the brakes to set-it-up....surprise, the thing goes straight. A dozen haybales explode and turn to dust. Now we DO have a serious handling problem with three wheels, no pedals and a steering shaft that points at the sun.

Turns out the chain oiler, which was mounted over the rear disc, cracked and lubed that disc real good. The change in brake bias changed the type of *spectacle* I had intended.
