Learning experienceBy: Deborah D-Harpur
Last year at Big Willow in the Yamaha Sit-p class I was running against
all the guys ( otherwise there'd be no one to run with ) and on the
grid were my teammate Terry Russell, Rich Van Fossen, Stacy Seguine,
Bill Madden a few other Duffy winners from this class.
When the green flag dropped I was ready!Things are going great until I
realize Im leading the best guys in my class up into turn 3 and 4! I
start banging on my nose panel for my teammate to hurry up and pass me
so I can draft him.
Well I see a nose, I am so relieved that Terry is gonna take the lead!
Well, then i realize its a black nose... Terry has a yellow nose. BUMMER.
Van Fossen slips by, gives me a freindly wave and i tuck behind him....
until i see a yellow nose out of my periferal vision.. so i scootch a
bit to let terry in front of me ( after all, he IS our teams #1 driver)
until i realize its Madden. same thing happens, until 4 karts later its
finally Terry and then im really POd at being at the back of a 5 kart
train.
But not too p.o.d, after all it was only my second season driving and im
running up front with the top dogs!!! whoo whee, ill just practice my
drafting! learn to choo choo train it,,, until 3 laps later when i drive
off too aggresive in turn 5.
lesson learned. if you got the lead keep it and just mind your own darn
business. dont worry about the top dogs behind you.
