Magic pipeBy: Charlie Tackett
Ted has run almost every race available at Grattan since he was 12 y/0. A
couple of years ago running the Sprint B (IKF = SuperStock). It was the last
race of the season, the third weekend their. We knew or set-up and after
only a couple of Friday practice sessions, were dialed in. Had half a day of
practice left. Well we had a friends stock appearing TT75 sitting in the
trailer, so what the hey. Pulled off the PC-93 adn bolted on the friends
stock appearing set-up. Well with the full body work we had and with ted
kinda hanging his elbow out to the side a little , you couldn't really see
the motor hardly at all. Ted was runnig 1.30.5-1.31 with the PC-93. Well
with the stock appearing he was running 1.29.0 +/-. On practice day at
Grattan you can start right from your pit spot and come off the track and
drive straight to your pit. Ted came in, drove right up to the trailer.
While it was still pretty warm, I pulled the stock appearing TT75 off and
put the PC-93 back on.
As competitiors can be, some in the class had been timing us (gosh, gee, I
never thought about that). Wasn't long before a couple of guys just happened
to wander buy and just happened to mention we seemed to be running pretty
good. Told them we had just been trying out a different pipe ( whoops, did I
forget to mention the different pipe was hooked to a different motor!). Next
thing I notice, they are over in their pits changing pipes!!!!
