    The handshake

    By: Charlie Tackett

After the first two heats, I was lined up outside pole for the third heat. Pole was an extreme advantage at this track due to the configuration of turn one. Well the pole sitter and I were good friends and had raced against each other for some time. Coming down the straight, about 20-30ft before where we would be likely to get the flag, we were in perfect formation, moving quite slow. The flagman was on the inside of the track, the pole sitters side. I drifted over right next to the pole sitter and leaned over with my hand out.....to wish him good luck (hehehe). He kinda looked over a little funny, like what's this, but then leaned over and shook my hand. Well, I was looking right at the grinning flagman, but my friend was looking towards me and away from the flagman. He never saw the green drop!!! I beat him to that first corner by several kart lengths and won the race.
