Hot pantsBy: V. Hill
This happened in Las Vegas racing with SCK. I was running the 125cc Mac class
when there was still such a thing, Spec shifter. It was a wonderful day.
Great weather, good friends to race with and the kart was running great. At
the drop of the flag I happened to get a good start. Not the usual occurrence
for me and the Mac powered kart. I was leading and I could not hear anyone
behind me. I looked back and I had at least several hundred feet lead at the
conclusion of the first lap. There was some aggressive driving at the start
by the others and they were settling it by bashing into each other. It was OK
with me. The third lap was done and I was still in the lead. At the end of
the straight just as I was entering the turn I noticed that my face shield
was starting to cloud up. Funny it was not cold. I reached up to wipe if off
and the shield just smeared with an oily goo. I got it cleaned up enough to
see and then it happened again on the next lap at the end of the straight
just as I was turning. To weird! Then I realized what was happening. The vent
line had come off of the fuel tank and as I was going through the corner all
of the conditions were just right for fuel to come streaming out of the vent
and spew all over me. No problem I will just try to deal with it. In about
several more seconds, I started to become acutely aware of my boy parts and a
tingly sensation. Not those good tingly first kiss sort of tingly feelings
but the holy sh-- that hurts like hell tingly feeling. Enough gas had vented
out of the tank that the lower part of my suit had become soaked in gasoline.
As much as I wanted to win the pain was way to intense. I pulled into the
pits and went full speed to the rest rooms. Luckily Vegas has real restrooms.
There were some kids playing with a water hose in front of the rest rooms and
Upon stopping the kart l made much haste and took the hose they were playing
with and just shoved it down my suit and tried to rinse off the gas. That was
not working fast enough but it was all that was available.
It required much water to wash all of the pain away. As a side bar I was
still a newlywed at the time and my wife got a kick out of teasing me about
the whole incident. Wink Wink nudge nudge. Hey you take the good with the
bad.
Still have the suit, Still have a brand New Mac 125cc engine if anybody is
interested. I will make a deal on both.
