Chain on the sprocket?
By: Richard Williams
We run 4 cycle, JR. II. Last year, we made a gear change at one of our club
races between Heat 1 and II. Made the change, put everything back together just
in time to hear our class called. Get to the grid....fire up the
motor...flagman
waves Brets, class on to the track...Bret accelerates off the grid....sparks
are
flying everywhere....Dad is waving and yelling to get his attention....no such
luck....chain breaks at far end of track...dad grabs push stick....
Upon examination, in my haste to get things back together, I had managed to
loop
the chain between the driver gears and the clutch housing. Did a nice job of
grinding the heads off the chain pins. Beautiful multicolored sparks.
(probably
would have been even cooler if it had been nighttime) Now, every time we make a
gear change I have to endure, "Dad, got that chain on the sprocket?"
