Warm-up rollBy: riroger@qconline.com
A couple of list members may remember this story. This driver, who shall
remain nameless, shows up to run at the Rock Island Grand Prix. As I
later find out he had a season of racing 4-cycle dirt in the South
before showing up to run our race. Oh, did I mention that besides
running 4-cycle, he also had a brand-new 125cc shifter just out of the
box that he was entered to run as well.
So the 4-cycle event goes off first and there is a jam-up in corner one,
red flag thrown, and there's a restart. This guy decides he's going to
do some weaving to warm up (scuff up?) his tires, rolls his kart without
hitting anything and breaks his collarbone. Never ran 4-cycle and, thank
god, never got the shifter out of the pits. I always thought the race
gods were looking after him that day.
