Many moons ago we were racing at Pomona Fairgrounds. During one of the
practice sessions Scotty was going down the dragstrip and ran out of brakes
just as he got to where he was to make a sharp left. Not being able to make
the turn he went straight towards some bushes. Well to his surprise there
was a wire cable stretched across the road, he immediately spun the kart
before he decapitated himself and flipped. At that time we were using Boy
Scouts for corner workers.
Scotty was laying on the ground with the wind knocked out of him. Along
comes this Boy Scout, raised his visor and asked if he was all right. Scotty
didn'[t respond, so in his enthusiasms to help the boy started pulling on
Scotties helmet to get it off. Of coarse it wasn't unbuckled and the kid
kept pulling on it, nearly chocked him to death before Scotty managed to get
enough strength up to knock the kid away.
